 About Green Corridors

Green Corridors is a social-purpose and impact-focused organisation that aims to see communities thrive in balance with the habitats around them. Green Corridors co-creates open spaces in key local destinations that balance environmental ‘musts’ with the challenges and opportunities of the communities that live, work and thrive within them. From these spaces and our purpose-projects and tourism experiences have been activated adding the critical layer of socio-economic sustainability to our ecosystem. By employing a layered partnership structure, we look to ensure the sustained involvement of multiple stakeholders in any given area. This ensures a resilient structure that can survive the cyclical nature of commercial sponsorships and campaigns.

Mangroves & MiniSass Day Activities & Lunch – Cost is R250 per Scholar, R270 per Teacher, based on 50 scholars and includes a Lunch Pack – Burger, chips, water & fruit juice. (CBD Schools-other areas to enquire).

Students will be fetched from School at 8am and dropped off at 2pm (or please discuss options with us if you wish to provide your own transport)

Mangroves Tour - Located at the mouth of the uMngeni River, lies one of the southern-most Mangrove systems in the world and one of the rarest habitats in South Africa. A guided walk along a boardwalk and meandering pathways will expose you to fascinating information on trees and the ecology of the mangrove areas – one of the rarest habitats in South Africa. Enjoy stories of the rich history of the area, and spot a variety of birds, including Fish Eagles, Pelicans, and Kingfishers.

Mini Sass Educational Tour - Learn about rivers, monitor the water quality of rivers within your community, and explore reasons why the water quality may not be as clean as everyone would like You collect a sample of macroinvertebrates (small animals) from the water, and depending on which groups are found, you have a measure of the general river health and water quality in that river. Once you have collected a sample you look for the different bug groups and score whether they were found.  The score then tells you the health class of the river, ranging across five categories from natural to very poor.  Before the days' end, you will also have an opportunity to volunteer in making a difference to the environment by engaging in a mini beach clean-up around the uMngeni River.
